Hidden Face, a different color (色) thriller made by actors Song Seung-heon, Cho Yeo-jung and Park Ji-hyun, will come to the screen in November.
On the morning of the 22nd, a report on the production of the movie "Hidden Face" was held at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University Entrance in Seoul. Director Kim Dae-woo and actors Song Seung-heon, Cho Yeo-jeong and Park Ji-hyun attended the meeting.
It begins with. Sungjin and Mi-Joo, who crossed a line that should not be crossed, continue to have a dizzying relationship with the appearance of cellist Mi-Joo (Park Ji-hyun), who replaced Su-yeon, for a while. Su-yeon, who was thought to have disappeared, is trapped in a closed room closer than anywhere else and watches everything, and the movie faces a new twist.
"Hidden Face" is a color (色) other behind-the-scenes thriller depicting human hidden desires through the shocking and fresh setting of watching the love affairs of the orchestra's conductor Sung-jin (Song Seung-heon) and cellist Soo-yeon (Cho Yeo-jung), who is about to marry. Hidden Face, based on a movie with the same name in Colombia, is attracting attention as a new film directed by Kim Dae-woo of Human Addiction and Bangjajeon.
Director Kim Dae-woo, who said he wanted to re-implement the movie in his own way after watching the original movie, said, "I wanted to make it fun with my arms once. I thought I wanted to make it more fun, he said. "Before, I thought I should put comic in my work, but this time, I wanted to do something more serious and a little more internal without laughing." As for the difference from the original, "I wanted to add 'intention'. "Whether it was malicious, good faith, or mischief, I wanted to make the setting table a little stronger by putting my intentions in it," he explained.
Song Seung-heon presents a wide range of emotional lines as Sung-jin, an Opestra conductor who suffers from the loss of her fiancee Su-yeon, who disappeared, but is strongly attracted to Mi-Joo, a cellist who replaced her. Song Seung-heon introduced the person in question, "Sungjin is, in a way, a former earthen spoon and a conductor full of desire, but he tries not to express himself."
"Sungjin's external appearance is compassionate and he is a conductor who is not enviable to anyone, but his desire is revealed when he meets Mi-Joo." In expressing that, I had a lot of conversations with the director, he said. "What was difficult was not a character who openly showed desire. In a way, he added, "As the director expressed, I'm a compulsory person."
In this regard, director Kim Dae-woo said, "I wanted to bring out the way Song Seung-heon talks and looks that he has never shown in dramas. He said, "I talked more and bothered more than I did in 'Human Addiction'."
"Su-yeon" disappears in the early part of the play and appears trapped in a closed room in a house that can never come out alone after reaching the middle of the play, instilling the tension of the play. In particular, Cho Yo-jung is expected to perform a crazy performance in which she does not spare herself to express shocking emotional changes while watching the hidden bare faces of "Sungjin" and "Mi-Joo" in a closed room.
"Su-yeon has a strong desire for possession," said Cho Yo-jung, who spoke about the character, "I think it's fun to be trapped with a strong desire for possession. I have to go back to myself, but I can't, and I come across an amazing truth in a closed room. I was frustrated because there was nothing I could actually do while filming, he said. "I thought the shouting and shouting should be different when I first entered and at the end." It's hard to express with your body. I tried to concentrate on the closed room as much as I could. At the end of the day, I became attached to 'the place'. "I'm sure it's the most screamed work since my debut," he said.
As for the reason for deciding to appear on Hidden Face, Cho Yo-jung said, "I thought it would be nice to have many aspects as an actor and have a chance to show it. This time, I was reading the script because I wanted you to find a different side, but I wanted to do it unconditionally. "I was so into books that I read it, and Su-hyun's heart was beating after a long time." I wanted to do it unconditionally because I was greedy," he said.
The interesting point is that both Parasite and Hidden Face, the works that led to the Academy Awards, take place in a secret space at home. When Cho Yo-jung was surprised by the unexpected discovery of common ground, Song Seung-heon, who was next to her, said, "Are you going to the academy?" and turned the scene into a sea of laughter.
Park Ji-hyun plays the role of "Sungjin" and "Mi-Joo," who is blinded by desire and commits unforgivable acts. Park Ji-hyun said, "The backroom, the filming set, was well embodied, so it was so comfortable to convey emotions. It's a mirror, but it was so good to act with Yeo Jong-sun while facing each other. I think I acted freely and happily because the director's directions were detailed and gave me appropriate directions," he said.
Classical music, which creates an alluring and mysterious atmosphere as well as actors' acting, is an important factor in adding dignity to Hidden Face. In addition, just as the orchestra completes a song with a combination of several instruments, it adds suspense to the desires and emotions of "Sungjin," "Suyeon," and "Miju" to increase the genre's attractiveness.
When asked why he should watch Hidden Face in movie theaters, director Kim Dae-woo cited "music" and said, "I paid a lot of attention to the sound. I am confident that it will be a very happy evening if I have a visual experience in front of a huge sound, rather than seeing it on a small screen or with reduced audio equipment.
In the first half of the film, classical music such as orchestra music, piano, and cello were actively used, but music that audibly interpreted the image of the space was designed from the middle to the second half of the film. First, music director Lee Jae-jin identified that the closed room was made of thick concrete and that it was characterized by a very low range of reverberation and reflection of sound and reflected in the music production. In addition, considering that the closed room is an enclosed space, steel guitars, percussion instruments, delays, eco-effects, and sound design were actively utilized to enable the spatial experience of audiences watching movies in theaters.
In response, head coach Kim Dae-woo said, "What I focused on was skill and skill. In the case of cinematographers, art directors, and music directors, it seems that they only asked for details. "I think it's my role to ensure that they can fully spread what they want," he explained.
